Subject: Update and Info for Families in Need
I am writing to update you on Jane Addams specific details with regards to COVID-19. As you know, Seattle Public Schools is providing daily updates, so communications from Jane Addams will be brief and school-specific.
Support for Families in Need
Jane Addams has substantial funds from the Alliance for Education to support Short-Term Emergency Housing, Food and other essential needs. It’s a confidential process. Support has ranged from grocery store gift/gas cards to paying a month’s rent in an emergency.
If you are need of assistance, please contact myself or your school counselor. We have access to grocery/gas cards from Safeway and Fred Meyer/Kroger/ QFC and have a process for in place for bill and housing assistance. You can also call the main office at 206-252-4500.

Student Led Conferences Postponed. We will have school on March 19.
Student led conferences have been postponed. Students have been hard at work creating their presentations of learning, so we are going to ask that students share their learning at home next Wednesday-Friday. During class, students will be rehearsing what they are going to share at home.
Jane Addams Communications to Students and Cleaning
Our science classrooms have had many lessons and conversations about COVID-19, we have increased signage to help remind students to wash their hands, and we are reinforcing fact-based information. Students are doing an amazing job cleaning up their own areas in the lunchroom to free up our hard-working custodians to further keep our school as clean as possible. We have never had a cleaner lunchroom. Each classroom has access to hand sanitizer, many have sinks and soap, and we are keeping all classroom doors open to limit hands on door knobs. We are set up in the lunchroom with plenty of hand sanitizer to have students clean before they eat and are providing near constant reminders as the students enter the lunchroom.
Our educators are in the process of developing materials for at home learning. We anticipate having materials available by the end of the week here in the main office, on-line, and if needed via mail. We respect every families decision to do what is best for their child and any health related absences are excused. Many assignments will be adjusted and excused.
We will continue to send out school communications and to update our webpages and social media accounts with support from our PTSA. We appreciate your support.
