Updated: Gift card drive to feed families in need during coronavirus outbreak (Can you help? Do you need help?)

How to help

Many families in the JAMS community are in need of additional support, both financial and nutritional, as they cope with the adverse effects of the coronavirus outbreak.

Our supply of gift cards is depleted and our counselors are receiving daily requests for assistance. Our goal is to collect 150 gift cards in amounts of $25 each within the next week. The preferred cards are Kroger because they can be used for food and gas.  (Safeway will work, as well.)

During the coronavirus closure, you should buy cards online (or at the store) and send them to the school.

How to get help

If you need help during this time, please see the text of a recent email from Jane Addams’ principal:

Dear Families,

I am writing to update you on Jane Addams specific details with regards to COVID-19. As you know, Seattle Public Schools is providing daily updates, so communications from Jane Addams will be brief and school-specific.

Support for Families in Need

Jane Addams has substantial funds from the Alliance for Education to support Short-Term Emergency Housing, Food and other essential needs.  It’s a confidential process. Support has ranged from grocery store gift/gas cards to paying a month’s rent in an emergency.

If you are need of assistance, please contact myself or your school counselor. We have access to grocery/gas cards from Safeway and Fred Meyer/Kroger/ QFC and have a process for in place for bill and housing assistance. You can also call the main office at 206-252-4500.
