New Student Orientation - This Friday,
Sept. 4 from 9 a.m. to noon, all 6th grade students are invited to tour the school and meet teachers.
Curriculum Night – Save the date: Oct. 8. Parents (no students, please) are invited to tour the building and attend your kids’ classes. You can also meet and welcome all our new, talented staff, including two new assistant principals: Dr. Joe Powell (also in charge of athletics) and Nerissa Hallberg.
NatureBridge – Last year, we raised money and got a grant to send our 8
th graders to an amazing environmental science camp at NatureBridge. This year, we’re committed to doing it again! Instead of going in the spring, we’re heading out this fall. Be on the lookout for details coming home in the first-day packet. (When?
Oct. 12-14. How much? $300; scholarships available for those in need).
Sports – Get your physicals now! Our sports volunteers have been working to secure start (sometime in October) and end dates of sports seasons and to find coaches. Practices will likely be T/Th. Check website for updates. We’d like to be a no-cut school, but that only works if the coach-to-student ratio works out. We’re working on it. Stay tuned for details, and let the athletic director know if you can help coach (especially Frisbee). Thanks!
Everyone’s Invited! Let’s celebrate the start of a new year with a multicultural potluck! We’re hosting our
First Fall Family Potluck and School Housewarming! Come celebrate our latest renovations and share a favorite family recipe (especially food from other regions/countries). Meet in JAMS Cafeteria on Thursday,
September 17, 6:30-8:00 p.m. A short PTSA general meeting will follow from 8-8:30 p.m. (Don’t worry if you can’t bring a dish; we’ll have some pizza, too. Just come!)
Volunteer Needs/Opportunities – If you have any daytime availability, our staff needs library, math, and lunchtime volunteers. For details, check the website or email
[email protected]. Teachers could also use some move-in help this week.

Join the JAMS Traffic and Transportation Committee! The JAMS Traffic and Transportation Committee is looking for awesome parent volunteers to safely manage intersections/pedestrian crossings, special events (i.e: 1st week of school, Traffic Safety Week in October, and Bike Safety Week in May), and long term management of transportation and safety issues. Please join our team to help meet our goal of not one injury or accident! Volunteering can be as often as an hour daily or as little as a half hour once a month. BONUS: The yellow safety vests look fabulous on everyone! Please submit our form for more information:
Traffic and Transportation Safety Form. Looking forward to a SAFE year for all Jaguars!
Afterschool Options – Our wonderful YMCA coordinator, Georgina Ramirez, is coordinating Power Hour tutors (with an emphasis on math), as well as working with Meadowbrook to offer sport skills classes to mirror our sports. Those who are familiar with last year’s Meadowbrook swim program will be glad to know that it’s going to continue as well (T/Th).
Thrive Middle School Program is a year-round program running out of Meadowbrook Community Center M-F (2:20-6 p.m.), offering afterschool, professional development day, and early release care along with winter and spring break camps. (All registrations require an up-to-date E-13 and enrollment paperwork.) Questions? Please contact the Meadowbrook Community Center for more information at (206) 684-7522 or email Thrive Director Andrew Appelwick at
